Age of Worms
Map # 9
With the pollution of Diamond Lake, the town’s small but lucrative fishing industry disappeared, leaving a slew of empty warehouses and bankrupt fishers. Some of these warehouses became stockades for mine managers. Others, abandoned to the elements became the homes of vagrants and addicts. The most famous warehouse is located on Front Street within smelling distance of the lake itself. Jalek’s Flophouse is “home” to nearly a hundred pitiful indigents whose miniscule coppers keep a roof over their heads. Lodging is 5 coppers a night, paid to a massive, helmeted mute named Golot. The brute beats those who do not pay until they pay, flee or die. Most rooms lack doors, let alone locks, but the shifting inhabitants and the chaotic layout of the upper floors make it one of the best places to disappear in all of Diamond Lake. The landlord Jalek lives in a rooftop apartment and is seldom seen.
